Undocumented worker numbers decline in Miami

http://cbs4.com/local/economy.undocumented.workers.2.1490602.html

Just a brief article stating some facts about how Florida is the only state to see a decrease in the number of undocumented workers. I thought the article was pretty sarcastic, but that could just be me.

Affirmative Action in California

http://www.justnews.com/news/22583158/detail.html

While this isn't necessarily an article that deals with Miami, this article came up on a Miami website, and I think that it is important enough and relevant enough that it should be posted and discussed.

That being said, this is an article about a lawsuit that is trying to reappeal Prop 209, which ended Affirmative Action in Calfiornia's school.

The article goes on to discuss statistics that startled me, about how underrepresented certain groups are in the UC system. I think that this article is relevant because it discusses Latinos in the higher education system.

Colleges use Spanish in application Materials

http://www.justnews.com/education/22491824/detail.html

While this article does not solely focus on Miami, I thought it is an article that deserves some recognition. It's about how US colleges are trying to attract Latino students be putting their application and financial aid pages in spanish. At the University of Florida, which has a "60 percent Hispanic enrollment", they lack the resources to add a Spanish page option. In conclusion of the article, they said that mostly the Spanish option pages were for the parents of Latino students.

Miami to Observe International Day for the Cuban Exile

http://cbs4.com/cuba/cuban.exiles.recognition.2.1505717.html

I thought this article was cool. It's about how Cuban exiles have played an integral part in making Miami what it is today, and how the Miami-Dade County Board declared February 24 as 'Cuban Exile Day'. Which is really cool that Cuban exiles are being officially honored for their part in Miami's history.

Immigration talks between Havanna and US

http://cbs4.com/cuba/US.Cuba.Immigration.2.1506386.html

This is a really good and really recent article about the current state of immigration between Cuba and US. To quote the article, "Cuba said its deputy minister of foreign affairs, Dagoberto Rodriguez, met with Craig Kelly, a deputy assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs and the highest ranking American official to come to the island in years".

There was also conversation later in the article about the exchange of prisoners convicted of spying. Cuba is holding an American convicted of spying, and Cuba supposedly will give him back in exchange for five Cubans convicted of spying that have been held by the US since the 1960's.

Trial for exile Luis Posada

http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/02/22/1492970/trial-for-posada-continues-to.html

This is a very interesting article which I think show an interesting POV between Cuba's and America's political relationship. The article is about a Cuban exile who, in 1997, placed bombs in Havana that lead to the death of one person, and the injury of others. But what makes this case so fascinating is that there are a lot of sealed documents within the case, which have lead to this trial being dragged out for over 10 years.
