Liberan a Los Presos Politicos

AN FRANCISCO.— Un grupo de alrededor de 35 personas vestidas de blanco se dieron cita el mediodía del miércoles 31 de marzo frente a la alcaldía de San Francisco en un gesto de apoyo hacia las Damas de Blanco cubanas, y exigiendo la liberación y respeto a los derechos humanos de los presos políticos de Cuba.

La organización conocida como las Damas de Blanco surgió espontáneamente en La Habana, Cuba, en 2003 cuando un grupo de mujeres, madres, hijas, hermanas y esposas de presos políticos comenzaron a reunirse y marchar en actos de protesta pacífica, vestidas de blanco y llevando flores, pidiendo por la liberación de sus seres queridos.

Cubans caught between generations

My nephew Julian turned 16 this past week. When I called on Wednesday to wish him a happy birthday I told him he was now an adult. This is it, I said, childhood is far behind; adolescence is over. You are now a grown up.
